Activities
Given that this initiative is fundamentally guided by anthropological principles, the first and essential task is to travel to the places where the subjects of our study live, even though we have already gained a theoretical understanding of each community to be visited through a variety of information sources.
Armed with the experiences and knowledge we have gained in the field, we are embarking on a journey back to sedentary societies to share these experiences and disseminate this knowledge through various channels, seeking to raise awareness and educate, but also to elicit a positive response from institutions and the general public
YURTA Association organizes a range of activities to fulfill our mission of raising awareness of and protecting the mobile-tradition cultures in all their diversity and variety—from purely nomadic to semi-nomadic, transhumant and itinerant groups—taking into account their specific ecological, social and political contexts, thereby ensuring they are properly understood, whilst identifying links with similar groups, countries and ecosystems.
The anthropological journey differs from conventional travel, as it involves gaining an in-depth understanding of a community or group of related communities in interaction with their own environments, both social and natural. This can be achieved either by spending time with a specific group or, as we prefer to do, when it is possible, by spending time with a variety of groups within the a same extensive community, which helps to avoid biased judgements fueled by excessive empathy, but it also enriches our understanding of that community through a greater variety of places and livelihoods within a same bio-cultural type
